ABILENE TOWN

 

Abilene is a cow-town at the end of a long, dusty trail from Texas. Its merchants depend on the cattlemen’s business, and its saloonkeepers thrive on the thirsty cowboys who have just been paid. Lately though, homesteaders have been pouring into the territory, ploughing up the range and putting down roots. The Marshall sees them as the future of Abilene Town, but the cattlemen are dead set against them and the townsfolk are unwilling to upset their best customers. THE ADMIRAL WAS A LADY

 

With WWII over at last, ex-WAVE Jean Madison Wanda Hendrix, returns stateside and encounters Jerry Stevens Edmond O’Brien, a wisecracking ex-bomber pilot. Jerry and his goldbricking flyboy pals are aces at scrounging freebies and collecting unemployment cheques to avoid the humdrum horrors of a regular job. They soon learn that Jean’s fiancé Henry has jilted her for a dame named Shirley, who happens to be the wife of millionaire jukebox king, Peter Pedigrew Rudi Vallee. ANIMAL FARM

Loneliness leads Harry into a friendship with Phyllis Ida Lupino, a free spirited young woman in Los Angeles who takes a shine to him. The friendship blossoms into more, and when Phyllis gets pregnant, Harry insists on marrying her. His two worlds begin to collide when Eve begs him to adopt a child, and the conscientious agent Edmund Gwenn, investigates his personal life. This compelling drama was directed by Ida Lupino.
