Abilene is a cow-town at the end of a long, dusty trail from Texas. Its merchants depend on the cattlemen’s business, and its saloonkeepers thrive on the thirsty cowboys who have just been paid. Lately though, homesteaders have been pouring into the territory, ploughing up the range and putting down roots. The Marshall sees them as the future of Abilene Town, but the cattlemen are dead set against them and the townsfolk are unwilling to upset their best customers. Scott Fitzgerald’s Babylon Revisited. This formula love story, directed by Richard Brook, gained limited acclaim among critics. Nevertheless, the film about American expatriates in Paris, was popular with war-weary movie-goers of the mid ‘50s, and featured strong performances by Taylor, Reed, Walter Pigeon, Eva Gabor and a young Roger Moore.
