Far in the future, an android named Byron, is apprehended on a murder warrant by two bounty hunters: Tasker, Mark Hamill, and his lovely but lethal partner Belitski; but at a remote cantina, Byron is spirited away by Matt Owen, Bill Paxton, a jet jockey who figures on collecting the reward for himself. They escape into the Slipstream, a dangerously powerful wind current that circles the globe. As the fierce wind blows them from one unusual adventure to another, man and android form an unlikely friendship, until the furious bounty hunters catch up with them – and all hell breaks loose.
