Produced and directed by Howard Hughes, this movie classic intertwines three legends of the old west: gambler and gunslinger, Doc Holliday Walter Huston; his best friend, Sheriff Pat Garrett Thomas Mitchell; and the notorious Billy the Kid Jack Buetel. When Billy first shows up, on a sweet-tempered mare that was stolen from Doc, Pat wants to run him out of town, but Doc, recognising something of himself in the devil-may-care youth, takes a shine to Billy; but their friendship incites jealousy in Pat. Add a sultry young beauty to the mix Jane Russell, in her first major role, and the stage is set for showdowns and surprises.
