After failing as an artist in Paris, a lonely young man Leslie Howard, returns to London and enrols in medical school. Shy and self-conscious because of a club foot, he falls hopelessly in love with a fickle-hearted, promiscuous waitress Bette Davis. Their relationship, despite her infidelities, prevents him from forming a lasting connection with anyone else, and keeps him a victim Of Human Bondage. A dramatic story of sexual obsession, betrayal and love, the film is based on W. Somerset Maugham’s acclaimed novel and provided Bette Davis with her first starring role.
