A drunken wreck, since the disappearance of his beloved girlfriend Friday, Velda, Mike Hammer Mickey Spillane, is plucked from a New York gutter, by the cops, and hustled to hear the last words of a dying man. Those words sober him up fast. Velda is alive, but in deep trouble. Mike immediately sets out to find her. The quest plunges him into a murky world of deception, murder and cold war espionage. Mike keeps turning up leads, but his ‘leads’ keep turning up dead! Finally, his persistent prying sparks a lethal confrontation, in which, hammer more than lives up to his name.
