THE FALLEN IDOL

With his parents away again, young Philip is delighted to spend more time with his best friend and hero: Baines the butler . . . even though it means putting up with the butler’s ill-tempered wife. However, when he sees Mrs Baines die, at the climax of a jealous fight with her husband, the boy is torn between his conscience and his desire to protect his hero, The Fallen Idol, from being arrested by the police. Carol Reed directs Ralph Richardson in this superb, suspenseful adaptation of a story by Graham Greene.
