THE ENTERTAINER
It’s the late 1950s in Brighton, England, and times are changing for Archie Rice, comic. Music Halls are losing their audience to television. Archie’s patter draws fewer laughs and applause for his song and dance routine echoes faintly in the large, mostly empty theatre, but Archie is certain he can turn the tide with one more big show at the Winter Gardens. What’s more, he’ll do anything to prove it – anything. Laurence Olivier is pitch-perfect as The Entertainer. Written by John Osbourne and directed by Tony Richardson.
