Born prematurely, with a defective immune system, Todd Lubitch is confined to an incubator, and then, to a sterile, transparent enclosure. Isolated from the outside world, where even fresh air could carry lethal germs or viruses, The Boy In The Plastic Bubble grows up surprisingly well-adjusted. As a bright, warm-hearted teenager, Todd, John Travolta, takes high school classes via closed circuit TV. He also falls in love with Gina, the girl next door. Then a visit from astronaut Buzz Aldrin inspires him to create a ‘space suit’ so he can attend school in person; but as his love for Gina grows, so does his desire to escape from his plastic shell.
