After the death of his mother in 1933, young Danny Turner leaves Philadelphia for the rugged mountains of Utah, and his mother’s birthplace. He arrives to find her family and friends suffering from a prolonged drought, the Great Depression, and the depredations of The Big Cat, a cougar that preys on their dwindling livestock. He soon gets drawn into the middle of an old, but bitter feud between his mother’s former lover Preston Foster and her brother Forest Tucker; but it’s the cougar that presents Danny with his greatest challenge in this low-key, warm-hearted coming-of-age drama.
