AGAINST ALL HOPE
Lubricated by liquor, Cecil Moe’s Michael Madsen, life is swirling slowly down the drain. An unhappy childhood, worsened by the premature deaths of his mother and then his father, leads him into the Navy, where he takes his first drink to dull the pain of loss and loneliness. He manages to keep his drinking problem under control long enough to become a husband and father, but it gets progressively worse, until it threatens his marriage, his family and his very life. Try as he might – and he tries mightily – he can’t seem to escape from the bottle. Finally, self-loathing becomes the catalyst for one more effort; his last chance - and this time it just has to work.
